This NCO has completed 260 hours operations and 34 trips. Joining the Squadron on 2nd February, 1942 after flying from England. He started his operations immediately and has been continuously on operations as rear gunner of an aircraft. since.
Due to Sergeant Murray’s keenness and cool thinking when over Tobruk he has always given his captain accurate directions as to the distance and positions flak was bursting for action to be taken before the ranging got to the aircraft
Over battle area targets he has, on several occasions, picked out especially big concentrations of enemy vehicles and directed the manoeuvres so that a bombing run could be made.
During his entire operational tour he has shown keenness and courage of the highest order and his consistent high degree of efficiency has been instrumental on many occasions of making a successful sortie.’
104 formed 1 April 1941 at Driffield, serving as a night bomber squadron until October 1941.
17 October 1941 a detachment to Luqa (Malta), and on 3 January 1942, to Kabrit (Egypt) where the remainder of the squadron joined from Driffield.
