Major General J.E. Thring.
John Everett Thring, B. Sutton Wiltshire 1826. Gentleman Cadet 1842. Served in Ceylon 1845-46. Served in the Crimean Campaign from April 1855, to the fall of Sebastopol, including the third bombardment . Engaged at the Tchernaya, 16 August 1855. (Medal and clasp and Turkish Medal). Served in India 1857-58, including the actions of Secundra, Chandra, and Sutanpore, Siege and Capture of Lucknow, relief of Azimghur, operations at Jugdispore. (Five times mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Major, Medal and Clasp). Served in Mauritius 1867-72. Inspector of Auxiliary Artillery 1872-77. Died at Teddington, 11 March 1895.
